North Shore Part 1

Hey everyone!  Today I will be sharing with you my first camping trip of the 2019 season :)  On June 4th Ellen, Libby, and I headed out for the North Shore to spend 2 nights at Tettegouche State Park and do some exploring close to there.

It was a beautiful sunny day for a drive!

Stopped at Betty's Pies in Two Harbors for lunch.  It wasn't too busy so that was nice!

Those were the best onion rings I've ever had!

We shared a piece of 5 layer chocolate pie...so good.

Made a quick stop at Palisade Head.

 

We arrived at Tettegouche, got camp set up and headed out for a hike!

We could see that some rain and thunderstorms were coming in so when we got back from the hike we decided to just a short walk down to the lake before going to the Visitor Center.

  

It rained for a couple hours, thankfully they have a nice area where one can stay inside!

Rainy evening calls for a few games of Monopoly Deal haha

The rain stopped by around 7 and we headed back to muddy camp and decided to get some supper made.

 We didn't have a fire that first night but just got supper made up and ate.  It was kinda cold and wet so we got ready for bed and played games/talked in the tent until we went to sleep.  Not every night of camping is always perfect but one makes the best of it and has a good time anyway! :)

Maplewood State Park - Overnight Camping Trip

I am finally getting around to sharing the photos from my mini trip to Maplewood.  My mom and I ventured a whole 80 miles to check out a new state park! :)  It is fun to realize that one does not always have to travel very far from home to see something new.

When we got there we checked in to our campsite and decided to make Hallaway Hill our first hike!

Some of the shrubs and grasses were just starting to look Fall-ish.

There was a lot of Sumac!

 

We got our work out climbing this hill.

The views were worth it!

Found some interesting old farming equipment in the woods.

 

After our hike we enjoyed a picnic lunch in the shade of this shelter.

After looking around down by the lake we started off on the scenic driving loop.

We were the only people on the drive...yay for visiting small parks during the week haha.

 

After we drove the loop we went and got our camp set up.

Off to another small trail!

Made a new friend!

This cute little building had maps and trail information in it.

 

It was fun to go on several shorter hikes and see different parts of the park.

We hiked around Grass Lake that our campsite was on.

In the Spring this building is used for demonstrations on the Maple Syrup making process!

 

The next morning we did one last hike on another interpretive trail before heading out.

 

It was fun to explore another park that was different from the area I live.  I am beginning to see the beauty in the prairie and not just pine trees! ;)  I'd like to go back to this park some time in the Fall when the colors have changed because I'm sure it would be gorgeous.
